Why we named it a pause
وقفة
In short: WQFA is pronounced waqfa. In Arabic it means a pause: the place where you stop, even briefly, before carrying on. We make Qur'an verse cards, hadith cards and gifts carrying the names of Allah, each designed for one quiet moment a day.
Most of what fills a day is designed to keep us moving. Notifications, feeds, the next task. We did not want to make one more thing that asks for attention. We wanted to make something that gives a little back.
What is on a WQFA card?
Every WQFA card holds a single verse of the Qur'an, a single hadith, or a single name of Allah. Nothing more is asked of you than to read it slowly. Turn it over and there is a short reflection to sit with. Then put it down and carry on with your day, a little steadier than before.
That is the whole idea. It is small on purpose. A habit you can keep is worth more than an ambitious one you abandon in a week.
Why are they made as gifts?
We wanted these to be gifts you are proud to hand over. So the cards are printed on heavy 400gsm card with rounded corners and gold-coloured print, and they live in boxes in the colours of our palette: black, maroon, green, blue and ivory. The box is part of the gift. It should feel worth keeping on a bedside table or a desk for years.
What we hold ourselves to
- Every Qur'an card shows the surah and ayah it comes from.
- Every hadith card shows its source and grading.
- No images of people or animals on our cards or boxes, because they are made to sit inside homes.
